Emma lied in bed, awake. Sleep was making her eyes droop, but was still too far away to make them close. Counting sheep never worked, so she just fiddled with her comforter until the Sandman would come and douse her.
“Do you think my test will be hard tomorrow?”
“I don’t know.”
“I hope I don’t fail.”
“You won’t. You studied for almost two hours.”
“Yeah, I guess. But it was really hard. Do you understand it?”
